Exploring the Vibrant Heart of San Francisco: Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown
When it comes to immersing yourself in the vibrant energy of San Francisco, the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown is the perfect basecamp. With its modern amenities, convenient + safe location, and stylish design, this hotel offers a memorable and comfortable stay in the heart of the city. From the hard vinyl floors to the well-equipped gym, here’s a comprehensive review of our experience at this allergen-friendly hotel.
Contemporary Design and Comfortable Accommodations
I recently stayed at this property during a work trip to the Bay Area and it was actually my first time staying at a Hyatt property (loyal Bonvoy enthusiast). Upon entering the hotel, I was immediately drawn to its contemporary design and sleek aesthetic, this was definitely a surprise as I had anticipated the boring and dated design of major hotel brands. The hotel’s modern decor and clean lines create a welcoming atmosphere that resonates with a younger crowd. The rooms feature hard vinyl floors, which not only lend a chic touch but definitely helped with my allergies as I had been suffering from a heavy spell of the seasonal curse back in Canada. It also felt super clean upon entering and I even relaxed on my usual checklist of hotel prep.
My Corner King Room was spacious, well-appointed, and provided breathtaking views of the cityscape. The plush beds and premium bedding ensured a restful night’s sleep, while the modern amenities, including a flat-screen TV and high-speed internet, kept me connected and entertained throughout the stay.
Fitness and Wellness at Your Fingertips
For those who prioritize fitness while traveling, the Hyatt Regency SOMA offers a well-equipped gym that is sure to impress. With a range of cardio machines, weightlifting equipment, and ample space for stretching and yoga, it’s the ideal place to maintain your workout routine or squeeze in a quick sweat session before exploring the city.
The gym is clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located within the hotel, making it easily accessible for guests. Staying active during the stay was effortless, thanks to the hotel’s commitment to providing excellent fitness facilities.
Unwind and Socialize at the Hotel Bar
One of the standout features of the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown is its stylish hotel bar. I was meeting up with my cousin during the trip, and it was difficult to find any coffee shops open after 6pm which was surprising given the vastness of the city. Fortunately, the hotel bar was an amazing alternative. The vibrant atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails make it the perfect place to unwind and socialize after a day of exploring the city. The bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the creative drink menu offers something for everyone.
Whether you’re in the mood for a classic cocktail or want to try a unique concoction, the bar’s mixologists are happy to accommodate. We thoroughly enjoyed sipping our drinks while taking in the stunning views of San Francisco’s skyline from the bar’s panoramic windows. It’s the ideal spot for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap before retiring to your room.
Culinary Delights: Local Eateries Worth Exploring
During our stay, I took the opportunity to venture out and sample the city’s culinary offerings with recommendations from local friends. Two standout dining experiences worth mentioning are our dinners at Dae Ho Kalbijjim and Tommaso’s.
Dae Ho Kalbijjim is a Korean barbecue restaurant known for its mouthwatering grilled meats and traditional dishes. We went to the one located on Post street which was super packed but super worth it. The cozy ambiance and friendly service made for a delightful evening, and we relished the opportunity to cook our own meats at the table. We tried the signature Kalbijim, Bibimbap, and the Boiled Brisket which were all amazing.

Tommaso’s, on the other hand, is a renowned Italian restaurant with a rich history. Established in 1935, it has been serving authentic Neapolitan cuisine for generations. From their famous thin-crust pizzas to homemade pasta dishes, every bite at Tommaso’s is a celebration of Italian flavors and traditions. We had the Spaghetti and House-Made Sausages and the Beef Carpaccio along with the house-wine which again, all highly recommended.
Conclusion: A Work Trip Haven in San Francisco
The Hyatt Regency SOMA is a haven in the heart of the city. With its contemporary design, comfortable accommodations, and convenient amenities like the gym and stylish hotel bar, it caters to the needs and preferences of a work traveler. Additionally, its location allows for easy exploration of the city’s vibrant neighborhoods and culinary delights while feeling relatively safe!
